The world looked on as Barack Obama took the oath of office as the 44th president of the United States this past Tuesday, January 20th.  As I watched parts of it, the Holy Spirit gently reminded of God’s Word.

“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” – Romans 13:1

“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.”        – I Peter 2:13-17

I must accept Barack’s presidency though we don’t agree on all the issues.  In addition to this, our responsibility as believers is to bring him before the throne of God in prayer.  Barack Obama is now MY PRESIDENT.  I have an obligation to intercede for him as he leads our country.  We live in uncertain times, and I challenge the Church to unite in prayer for our president, for this is not only a commandment but also honors our God by “silencing the ignorant talk of foolish men.”

“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” – I Timothy 2:1-2

  1. Amen brother! I believe we should pray for him and ask God to lead him in his decisions. Without God, our future is scary.

  2. Although this is an old thread I’d like to pose a new question since its been about 50 days since his inauguration,”How has the president done thus far.” i have no prejudice against barrack obama as being out president because frankly i see both of the candidates as being pushed into shark infested waters, and although i accepted him as our president i do no agree with his ability to pass practically any bill he desires ( democrat controlled house) which included a very hefty stimulus bill, and before the bill even lifts off a new stimulus is being proposed. Barack’s presidency will be defined by the actions he takes to restore the economy’s stabilization. I’m not saying the stimulus wont work, i hope and pray that it will because there are thousands of Americans that believed in Barack’s dream of a reformed America, and if there are more incidents like his closed door earmark bill i worry about how much else he will follow through with and how many more thousands of people will began to dwindle from comfortably living Americans to chapter 11 Americans.
