God’s in Control

Posted by: Pastor

In our church we are engaged in reading through the entire Bible this year.  We are doing so chronologically.  For example, the Book of Job is integrated with Genesis because Job lived before Abraham.

Today’s reading falls on Gen. 43-45, where Joseph, Israel’s son, finally makes himself known to his brothers.  It’s an amazing story of perseverance.  Joseph’s life is filled with trials, trials that don’t make sense…facing rejection and betrayal from his own brothers, false accusations and the like.

However, God uses Joseph in bringing about deliverance to countless people through seven years of severe famine.  I love how Joseph sums it up later in Gen. 50:20  as he directs himself to his brothers: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

Are you hurting today?  Remember that God is still on the throne; He is sovereign!  One day we, as Joseph, will be able to look back and see God’s hand with us.  Let’s press on; don’t give up.

  1. Thank you for reminding us that serving God doesn’t mean that nothing bad will happen. It just means that God’s on our side and by trusting Him, He will see us through it.

  2. That’s right, Karina! God never promised that life would be a bed of roses…He did say that He would never leave us nor forsake us. God is good and trustworthy!
